Scam Alert

Attention Students

The U.S. Department of Education has issued a warning that many students receiving Federal Financial aid have been receiving malicious emails that attempt to trick students into downloading malicious software or access a malicious website.

Here is a link to the U.S. Department of Education warning. The link provides additional details and an example of what one of these malicious emails look like.

Beware of Malicious Emails and Websites

Please be weary of suspicious emails.

Don't put yourself at risk! Please contact the BRCC IT department at (828) 694-1895 or before you open any questionable email attachment sent to your address.

Consider three things when receiving an email:

  1. The suspicious nature of the email itself.
  2. The email's attachment instructing you (the user) to click a link or image to open it.
  3. A Web page or login screen that does not look as you recall or that has an unfamiliar website address.
